How the gold price in Singapore is determined

There is no separate "Singapore gold price" set locally — gold trades on a single global market, quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (XAU/USD). The SGD prices on this site are that international benchmark converted at the live USD/SGD exchange rate, then broken down per gram and per purity. Two forces therefore move the local price: the world gold price and the Singapore Dollar exchange rate.

About the prices on this site

Prices refresh automatically throughout the trading day from live market data — the page updates itself roughly every minute while open. The rates shown are spot-derived metal values: what the gold content itself is worth. Retail shops in Singapore quote around this benchmark, adding a margin and workmanship when selling and deducting a spread when buying back.

常见问题

What is 24K gold?

24 karat gold is pure gold — 999 fineness, or at least 99.9% gold content. It is the benchmark purity for bullion bars, investment coins and gold savings accounts, and the price from which every lower karat is calculated.

What is 22K gold?

22 karat gold contains 22 parts gold and 2 parts alloy metals, making it about 91.6% pure. The alloy makes it harder than 24K, which is why 22K is the standard for traditional gold jewellery in many countries.

What is 916 gold?

916 is the fineness marking for 22K gold — 916 parts of gold per 1,000 parts of metal. A 916 hallmark and a 22K label describe exactly the same purity; only the notation differs.

How is the gold price in Singapore calculated?

The international spot price in US dollars per troy ounce is converted to Singapore Dollar at the live USD/SGD exchange rate. Dividing by 31.1034768 gives the pure-gold price per gram, and multiplying by the purity fraction (karat ÷ 24) gives each karat's rate.

Why do jewellery shop prices differ from the rates here?

This site shows the metal value of gold based on the live spot price. Jewellers add workmanship or making charges, brand premiums, retail margins and taxes when selling, and deduct a spread when buying back — so shop prices sit above the spot-derived rate.

Why does the gold price change every day?

Gold trades continuously on global markets, reacting to interest rates, inflation expectations, central bank activity, currency moves and geopolitical events. On top of that, the SGD price also moves whenever the USD/SGD exchange rate changes — even if gold itself is flat.

How often are the prices on this page updated?

Prices refresh automatically about once a minute while the page is open, using live spot market and foreign exchange data. The last update time is shown at the top of every page.

How accurate are these prices?

The rates track the international interbank spot price and live exchange rates closely, making them a reliable benchmark. Actual dealer quotes will differ slightly because every dealer applies its own buy/sell spread.

Can I calculate the value of my own gold?

Yes — use the Singapore gold calculator linked on this page. Enter a weight, choose the unit (gram, ounce or tola) and purity (24K, 22K/916, 18K and more), and optionally add a premium or discount to model real shop prices.

Can I compare gold prices between countries?

Yes. This site has live gold price pages for many countries, each converted from the same international benchmark into the local currency — use the country links at the bottom of the page. Differences between countries mainly reflect exchange rates, local taxes and dealer premiums.
